Vergennes/Middlebury Gertrude Needham
Mrs. Gertrude Needham 91, died early Saturday morning April 17, 2010 at Ringers Home Care in Vergennes. She was born July 24, 1918 in Starksboro, VT, the daughter of Timothy & Anna (Flint) Newton. Gertrude was a graduate of Bristol High School. She married Warren Needham June 8, 1942, he predeceased her in December 2000.
She enjoyed embroidery, antique hunting and going to yard sales, playing bingo, poker and many other card and board games. She especially enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In the 1970s & 1980s she had antique shops in Middlebury and Bridport.
Gertrude is survived by a brother, Charles Newton, of St. Pete, FL, and a sister, Mary Woodard, of East Corinth, Vt, she was predeceased by brothers Guy, Wallace (Porky) and Flint Newton and sisters Hazel Hunt and Ruth Manilla and a great granddaughter Jamie Leigh Devoid. She is survived by her six children, Greggory Needham & his wife Betty, of Pinellas Park, FL & their children, Danny, Tonya and Connie and their families, Warren Needham & his wife Sharon, of Bethel & their children, Matt, Chris, Bill, Colleen and Kelly and their families, Jon Needham & his wife Connie, of Leicester, and their children, Bruce, Jackie and Chelle and their families, Jim Needham & his wife DeDe, of Addison, and their children, James Jr, Patrick and Stephanie and their partners, Linda Trask & her husband Geoffrey, of Bethel, and their son, Garrett and family, and Larry Needham. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Olney Needham & his wife Jean, of Florida and sister-in-law Frances Williams, of Burlington, and by her twenty one great grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews and a multitude of good friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday April 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Sanderson-Ducharme located at 117 South Main Street, Middlebury, Vt. The Rev. Steven Jewett, pastor of the Memorial Baptist Church will officiate. Visiting hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Burial will follow in Middlebury Cemetery
Memorial contributions in memory of Gertrude may be made to Project Independence, the Russ Sholes Center, or to the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, or to the Vergennes Area Rescue.
The Family would like to especially thank the dedicated staff and caregivers at Ringers Home Care in Vergennes for their love and support of Gertrude over these past few years.
