Weybridge-
Gerald C. DeWitt 88, died Thursday evening April 21, 2016 at Porter Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born February 16, 1928 in Kingston, NY the son of Earl B. and Evelyn (Coddington) DeWitt. He earned his G.E.D. in Highland, NY.
Gerald enlisted and served in the United States Army during the Korean Era.
He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Libanus Lodge #47 F & A.M. of Bristol and a member of the United Methodist Church.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many winters in Arizona.
Gerald had previously worked as a sales representative for F.M.C. and was also a Deputy Sheriff for Addison County Sheriff Department for over 25 years.
He is survived by his wife Shelby (Harcourt) DeWitt who he married December 9, 1950, by his sons, Gary M. DeWitt and wife Barbara of North Ferrisburgh, Martin L. DeWitt and wife Catherine of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Thomas DeWitt of Weybridge, by his sisters, Rosalyn Schoonmaker and Marion Whitford both of Wallkill, NY, by his 2 grandsons, Jason and Jeremy DeWitt of S.D.
He was predeceased by his parents and by his brothers, Earl B. DeWitt Jr. and Robert P. DeWitt
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday April 27, 2016 from 4-7 P.M. at the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, located at 117 South Main Street Middlebury.
Graveside services will be held in Modena Rural Cemetery in Modena, NY at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Middlebury United Methodist Church at 47 N. Pleasant Street, Middlebury, VT 05753, Elderly Services Inc. at 112 Exchange Street, Middlebury, VT 05753 or to the Addison County Home Health and Hospice at P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
