Middlebury-Genevieve Mayer, 79, passed away peacefully after a long illness at the home of her caregivers, Kathy and George Forand in Bristol, VT.
She was born September 10, 1931 in Middlebury, the daughter of Raymond and Dolphine (Neff) James.
She attended St. Marys Catholic School in Middlebury and graduated from Middlebury High School, Class of 1950.
In June of 1950 she married Paul E. Mayer in St. Marys Catholic Church in Middlebury.
She was employed in various positions over the years, including the Western Union office in Middlebury, Simmonds Precision Products in Vergennes, and Middlebury Savings & Loan. She also was the Data Entry Clerk for the Sunderland Language Schools at Middlebury College, enrolling students in the eight languages for the summer programs and the schools abroad: she was employed there for eleven years until her retirement in 1994.
After retirement she spent much time and had great pride working in her backyard flower gardens. She was very talented in all areas of crafts, writing and handiwork. She shared her talents, love, and laughter with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years Paul E. Mayer, her son Paul J. Mayer, daughter Paula Mayer and companion Phillip Williams (all of Middlebury), her sister Beverly James Wilson of Oviedo, Florida. Grandchildren: Kami, Darci, Merina and Elesha. Great-grandsons: Ryan, Nolan, Colby & Bryan.
She was predeceased by her parents and her grandson, Brian Mayer.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 3 PM.at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main St. with the Rev. Albert Skip Baltz officiating. Visiting hours will be from 1 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Spring burial will be at St. Genevieves Cemetery in Shoreham.
