Obituary

RIPTON — Gary D. Smith passed peacefully at his home July 20, 2025, surrounded by his family and animals. He was the son of Nola and Kenneth Smith formerly of Ripton.

He is survived by his daughters, Stacy and Gary Brown of Salisbury and Roxanne and John Calden of Florida; the mother of his daughters, Debbie Goodrich; grandchildren Riley, Kegan, Kaitlyn and McKenna; great-grandkids, Payson and Tynsleigh; sisters, Bonnie Swan and Cindy Savage; brothers, Chris and Doug Smith; special niece Nola Bogue and special nephew Treavor Supernaw, who didn't leave his side once he got home; niece Jasmine Egan for her help and guidance keeping him comfortable, and many other nieces and nephews.

Gary was predeceased by his parents and brothers Kenny and Carl Smith.

A farmer for many years, he is known for the love of his buffalo and many years as a race car Driver. He was an avid hunter. He took many once-in-a-lifetime hunting trips with Riley and taught Kegan all about sugaring.

Gary had many titles — son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, great friend and helpful neighbor.

Gary made this world a better place and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

A Celebration of life will be held July 26, at the American Legion in Middlebury from 1-3 p.m.
