Obituary

Middlebury, VT Mr. Frank A. Garbacz, Jr. Frank Anthony Garbacz, 59, passed away on Friday evening December 10, 2010 at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center after a long and valiant battle with both Leukemia and Metastatic renal cancer. He was born in Rutland on September 16, 1951; the son of Frank A. and Ida (White) Garbacz. After graduating from Rutland High School in 1969 he continued his education at Bryant and Stratton College in Boston and graduated Cum Laude from Castleton State College in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. After graduation, he began an extensive career in Information Technology first at Central Vermont Public Service in Rutland and then at Goodrich Corp. in Vergennes. On November 17, 1979 Frank married the love of his life, Marie A. DesMarais at Rutlands Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church. Together they moved to Middlebury, Vermont where they built a home and later purchased a Cottage on Lake Hortonia in Sudbury where they spent their summers. In 1979 Frank accepted a position at Simmonds Precision, an Aerospace Company in Vergennes, which later became Goodrich Corporation. He worked in the Information Technology department of Goodrich for 30 years, leaving the company in January 2009 due to his failing health. Frank was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in Rutland and was a communicant of St. Marys Roman Catholic Church in Middlebury. He enjoyed gardening, swimming, boating and working with computers. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 31 years Marie (DesMarais) Garbacz, of Middlebury, his mother Ida Garbacz, of North Conway, NH, his brother David Garbacz, of Bow, NH, his niece Christine Garbacz and his nephew, Joseph Garbacz, both of North Conway, NH., his former sister-in-law Laurie Garbacz, of Madison, NH, by his aunt Agnes Johnson, of Rutland and numerous cousins and friends. In addition, he is survived by Maries family; brother-in-law and longtime friend, Gerry DesMarais and his wife Jean, of Williston, VT, sisters-in-law Jean E. DesMarais, of Rutland, and Therese Sweeney and her husband Philip, of Poultney. He was predeceased by his father in 2001, his mother-in-law in 2003, and his sister-in-law in 1998. Visiting hours will be held on Monday December 13, 2010 from 4-7 P.M. at the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home located at 117 South Main Street Middlebury, VT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday December 14, 2010 at 1 P.M. at St. Marys Catholic Church, Middlebury. The Rev. William R. Beaudin will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Josephs Cemetery, Stratton Road, Rutland, VT. A reception will immediately follow at the Hampton Inns Wentworth Room in Rutland.
