Francis B. Howland, 95, a fifty year Vergennes resident, currently of New Haven, passed away on Tuesday, February 16 at Porter Medical Center.
He was born in Brandon on December 4, 1920, the youngest son of the late Frank and Bertha (Wisell) Howland. He attended local schools and retired after twenty years of service from Middlebury College in the maintenance department.
He was predeceased by his wife Pauline (Carr) Howland on March 8, 1998. He is survived by his son, David J. Howland of Tucson, AZ and his daughter, Margaret (Howland) Raymond of Shelburne. He will be missed by two grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Two sons predeceased him, Robert, who died in infancy and Dan in 1972, as well as twelve siblings.
The family extends special thanks to Alice & Chuck Barnum and family for their special care and also Addison County Home Health and Hospice.
A calling hour will be held on Saturday, February 20 from 1 2pm at the Sanderson Funeral Home, 117 South Main St., Middlebury followed by a memorial service at 2pm. The Reverend Alan Kittelson officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in the spring.
