New Haven - Floyd C. (Supe) Peck, 76, a resident of New Haven for many years, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at his home surrounded by loving family after a long battle with cancer. Born in Middlebury December 29, 1934, he was the son of the late George W. and Marie (Premo) Peck. He was a 1953 graduate of Middlebury High School and was a well known businessman in the area as the owner of Peck Glass & Auto Supply prior to moving into residential and commercial real estate development. Floyd was a 47-year member and Past President of the Middlebury Lions Club and was instrumental in creating the Twin State Soccer Cup held annually in July and the Lions Club vision program, and was the Vermont District Governor in 1973-74. He was also a grand mason at Lodge #2 F&AM, a member of the Middlebury Chamber of Commerce, past 25-term president of Carter Cemetery Association, and former Air National Guard member. A passionate and experienced boater on both Lake Champlain and Lake Dunmore, Floyd raced boats on Lake Champlain in his youth. He also enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife, and was an avid Orlando Magic basketball fan. Family members include his wife Beverly (Cunningham) Peck of New Haven, one son, Mark Peck of Burlington, two daughters, Jodie Peck of South Burlington and Sue Ringey and her husband Mark of South Burlington; one sister, Lucille Lewis and her husband Al of Arkansas, six grandchildren, Derek Spear, Gaige Spear and Camarie Spear, Kegan Ringey, Tyson Ringey and Mattea Ringey, all of South Burlington, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Morris and Bill Peck. Special boating friends include Heidi Brousseau of West Addison and Jim and Carol Bushey of Bridport who have shared many memorable years of July 4 festivities at the Burlington Boat House. A heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Addison County Home Health and Hospice, with special mention to Stephanie Stoddard and Tim Hanson; and to the Fletcher Allen Health Center angels on Shepardson 4. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at Middlebury United Methodist Church, with Ed Hilbert officiating. Internment will be held at Carter Cemetery in Monkton at a future date.
