Shelburne- Ernest W. Dahlin, Jr., 84 formerly of East Middlebury, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Fletcher Allen Healthcare, Burlington.
Born in Rutland, January 16, 1923, he was the son of the late Ernest W. and Elsie (New) Dahlin Sr. His early years were spent in Mendon, moving with his family to East Middlebury when his parents bought what is now the Waybury Inn in 1927.
He was a graduate of Middlebury High School, class of 1940. After working at Shackett's Store as a clerk and delivery man he attended and graduated from Bay Path Business School in 1942.
From 1942 until 1945 he served in the United States Marine Corps, initially at Marine Headquarters, Washington, D.C. then Guadalcanal and after in Okinawa.
From 1945 until 1979 he was production manager at Addison Press. Later he served as editor of Ayrshire Digest in Brandon for several years. He was past President of Vermont Printers Association.
He married Jessie (Kirby) June 14, 1947 who preceded him in death September 26, 2001. In retirement they traveled throughout 45 states. He became an active member of Otter Valley Good Sams's Club.
During retirement years he worked as a guide at Shelburne Museum for 21 years.
Family members include two sons; Warren and his wife Lena Dahlin of Williston, and Barry and his wife Karen Dahlin of Weybridge; one daughter, Ellen and her husband Bill Tantlinger of Fletcher; six grandchildren; Santha Dahlin, Rick Fletcher, Sally Dahlin Jason , Kim and Lori Tantlinger; four great-grandchildren, Hayley, Aidan, Aislinn and Gavin Fletcher.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, A. Edwin Dahlin and a sister, Jane MacIntyre.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday, November 3, 2007 at East Middlebury United Methodist Church with Rev. Jill Robinson, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery, East Middlebury.
