Emile J. Desautels, 88, of Middlebury died early Saturday morning March 23, 2013 at his home following a long illness.
He is survived by his son, Roger Desautels of Middlebury, and his daughter, Victoria Aubert and her husband Jean-Luc currently residing in India. He is survived by his granddaughters Stephanie and Ashley Aubert of Burlington, and his brother Maurice and wife Claire of Middlebury.
He is predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Mary (Sankowski) Desautels who passed in 1991 and Elizabeth (Bette Swenor) Pratt who passed in 2007.
Emile J. Desautels was born on September 6, 1924 in Middlebury, the son of Henry and Justine (Bourgeois) Desautels. He attended Middlebury area schools. He grew up helping on his parents farm and learned to move buildings from his father. As a young man he worked erecting radio towers on the east coast. In 1948 he married Mary Sankowski at the St. Stanislaus Polish Church in West Rutland. He owned and operated Desautels House Moving Inc. until his retirement in 2008. He was an avid stock car racing fan and enjoyed annual trips to Florida for the Daytona 500.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on March 27, 2013 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Marys Church in Middlebury. Burial will be held at a later date in St. Marys Cemetery.
