Bridport- Ellen M. Bronson
Ellen McGinn Bronson, 86, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, went to be with the Lord on June 28,2008 at her home in Bridport.
Daughter of George and Helen McGinn, she attended school in Bridport, graduating from Middlebury Union High School and then Castleton College, where she earned her teaching degree. Ellen taught school in Orwell for a year, then married Bernard Bronson on Sept. 27, 1943.
She actively supported her community as President of St. Bernadettes Altar Society as well as the President of the Vermont Council of Catholic Women, and as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, the Bridport Homemakers, the Historical Society, and the Bridport Grange, where she held offices on the local, county, and state levels. She also served on the Planning Commission, as Town Auditor, and as a Justice of the Peace. Ellen served as a volunteer at Neat Repeats Consignment Shop in Middlebury. She was a dedicated volunteer and member of her community, one who will truly be missed.
Ellen is survived by her husband Bernard, son Francis Bronson, daughter Barbara and son-in-law Andre Mercier, all of Bridport, as well as her four grandchildren Jason, Ray, and Renee Mercier, and Bailey Bronson of Salisbury. She is also survived by her brother Ernest McGinn, many brother and sister-in-laws, as well as nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday June 30, 2008 from 5-7 PM at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home 117 south Main Street Middlebury, VT.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday July 1, 2008 at 11 AM at St. Bernadettes Catholic Church. The Rev William R. Beaudin will officiate. Burial will follow in Bridport Central Cemetery.
