Obituary

Middlebury Elizabeth Paquette Wilder, 71, died at Porter Hospital on Saturday, January 23rd, 2010 following a brief illness. She was born December 15th, 1938 in Orwell, Vermont, the daughter of Lucien and Mabel (McIntyre) Paquette. She graduated from Middlebury High School in 1956. Betty received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from Castleton State College in 1960 and her Masters in Reading and Written Language from UVM. She was a teacher and school administrator for 39 years, retiring as Principle of Vergennes Union Elementary School in 1999. She was inducted into the MHS/MUHS Hall of Fame in 2000. She loved singing in the Methodist Church Choir, sewing, and reading. Betty was active in the MHS/MUHS Alumni Association, serving as Secretary and as President. Betty is survived by her husband Richard Wilder, her mother Mabel (Sue) Flanagan, her son Michael Livingston and her granddaughter Jenna all of Middlebury, her daughter Melissa and her husband Greg George, granddaughters Kylie, Kelsey, Madison, and Hayden of Colchester, and her precious cats Punkin, Sam, Jake, and Toby. She was predeceased by her step-father Eric Flanagan in 2002. A memorial service will be held at the Middlebury United Methodist Church (47 N. Pleasant St., Middlebury, VT) on Wednesday January 27th 2010 at 11:00am, with burial in the spring in Case Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Addison County Humane Society (236 Boardman St., Middlebury, VT 05753) or to the Middlebury United Methodist Church.
