Elizabeth G. Pierce, 92, died Thursday, June 15, 2017.
She was born October 16, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of Millard and Sarah (Baxter) Goe.
Elizabeth was a graduate of Douglass College and a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy (WAVES).
She is predeceased by her husband and best friend of fifty years, Charles W. Pierce.
Betty and Chuck relocated from southern New Jersey to their vacation home, a log cabin in south Lincoln, VT, in 1982 where they thoroughly enjoyed their first twelve years of retirement before moving to Middlebury.
Mrs. Pierce taught high school English for many years, and was active with both the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels in Middlebury. She was an avid reader, sports fan and loved all animals, but especially her cats.
She will be remembered best for her wit and her wonderful sense of humor; she could find the humor in any situation and loved to make people laugh.
She is survived by her children, Robert Pierce, and wife Patience Trickett of Shelburne and Susan Van Sloten and husband Kevin of Washington, D.C., by her grandchildren, Sarah, John, and wife Melanie, and James, and by her step grandchildren Austin and wife, Heather, and Tyler, and by her step great grandchild, Ashton.
Graveside services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
