Obituary

Elisabeth C. Montgomery, Age 87, of Shelburne, VT, lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease on May 23, 2026. She chose “Terry” as a nickname as a child, from her favorite comic strip “Terry and the Pirates”. She grew up in Alexandria, VA, attended St. Agnes School and Mary Washington College. She lived most of her adult life in Bethesda, MD with her husband John and daughters Ellyn and Janet. She managed the household and after her daughters were in school she held a variety of administrative positions, mostly in private secondary schools.

The family enjoyed Scottish Country dancing, and she and John participated in many performances in the metro Washington DC area. She and John traveled widely, and particularly enjoyed learning about different cultures. She became a talented fiber artist; able to spin, knit and weave just about anything. Her friends and family treasure gifts she made. She was an enthusiastic reader of murder mysteries, particularly enjoying those by Rex Stout with investigator Nero Wolfe.

In retirement, she and John moved to a lovely location in Hinesburg VT where they enjoyed several happy years in their hillside home, renovating, gardening and taking in the views. They loved being closer to both daughters and being able to spend more time with them. She was widowed in 1995 and subsequently moved to Charlottesville, VA where she made new friends and participated in activities of the local fiber arts community and at the Senior Center. She moved back to Vermont in 2019 to be near Ellyn as her care needs increased due to dementia.

She was preceded in death by her parents Elizabeth and Terrill Coons, her husband, John S. Montgomery and her younger daughter Janet F. Montgomery. Terry is survived by her daughter Ellyn Montgomery of Middlebury VT, her husband Tom Bolmer, and son-in-law Nelson Caraballo. Her life was filled with much love, wonderful friends and many adventures. We are comforted knowing that she is finally free of this debilitating disease.
