Obituary

Edward Clark Walton, Jr, 75, of Middlebury, VT passed away at his home on March 15, 2023. Ed was born on November 7, 1947 in Bennington, VT to Edward and Joan (Crowley) Walton. Ed spent his childhood in Bennington, Vermont as well as North Adams and Springfield, Massachusetts. He graduated from Tech High School on June 13, 1966. He was a member of the Targets Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as the Marksmen Drum and Bugle Corps. He loved the competition of all bands gathering together. Even later in life, he remained passionate about Drum and Bugle Corps and loved watching them perform. Upon high school graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army in June of 1967 to serve his country proudly in the Vietnam War. He loved his country and was very patriotic. Ed always enjoyed a good holiday parade and celebrating America. A man of continual curiosity, Ed followed many different career paths in life after the Army ranging from being a pastry chef at Middlebury Inn, to spending four years as a massage therapist. He graduated from Champlain College on May 19, 1982. He always enjoyed the simple things of life: spending time with his family, the joy that each holiday brought, watching old westerns and shows of his childhood on television, and anything that tasted sweet. In 1980, Ed met the love of his life, Dolores Brown. They were married on August 8, 1981 in Hinesburg. Dolores is a wife that one dreams of having. She is loving, compassionate and holds strong family morals. One of their favorite activities was traveling together. They share special memories of their trips to Florida, California, and British Colombia. As Eds health declined later in his life, Dolores was steadfast in his care and always by his side. He wouldnt have been who he was without her. Ed had a heart of gold. He was authentic, very generous and he would do anything for anyone. He was incredibly proud of his niece, Maria, and loved visiting with and hearing about his grandnephews. Ed is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dolores; his sister, Susan Ghobadi and her husband Ben of Williston, VT; their daughter Maria and her husband Joe Doud, and their sons, Sullivan and Colton of Essex Junction, VT. He leaves behind his brother-in-law Gary Brown of Starksboro, VT, and sister-in-law Jean Allard of Essex Jct., VT. Numerous other family members will miss Ed greatly including Uncle Ron Stufflebean, cousin Royal and Wayha Hartigan, cousin Bill and Jessica Colvin and their daughter Mia Rose, cousin Al and Claudia Bunch, and cousins Barbara Morgan and Deb Conway, along with his great uncle Jack Czerwinski. Ed also leaves behind his cat, Shelly, who loved him deeply. Visitation will be on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Sanderson Funeral Home, 117 South Main Street, Middlebury from 10 11am with a graveside service to follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Middlebury at 11am.
