Edward Charles Cyr, 69, of Murrells Inlet, SC and formerly of Shelburne, VT , died on May 9, 2016 at McCleod Hospital in Florence, SC after a long illness.
He was born on April 3, 1947 in New Haven, VT to Andrew and Helen (Hagan) Cyr.
Ed was a dedicated public servant. He served a total of 10 years between the Air Guard and Army Reserve. Early on, he served on Bristol Rescue. His law enforcement years began as a Special Deputy Game Warden and later as a Special Deputy Sheriff for Addison County. He worked part time for both Middlebury and Vergennes Police Departments while holding a full time job at Polymers Plastics. He was also an honored member of the National FBI Academy. Eventually he went full time with the Middlebury Police Department from which he retired as a Sergeant in 2009 after 32 years of service.
Ed is survived by his wife of 31 years, Susan (Hunt) Cyr and his In-laws Donald and Joy (Bishop) Hunt of Vergennes. Daughter Tamra and husband EJ Thorne and their two children Addison and Tyler of Newburyport, MA; Son Andrew Cyr of PennYan, NY; Stepson Robert Svendsen of Florida, Stepdaughter Kristi Gorton of Hinesburg, VT and her three children Alec, Tayler, and Kacey. Also, grandchildren Ashley, Kaitlin and Jacob Jurgens. By his eldest sister Janet and husband Bob Edwards, eldest brother James Cyr and wife Penny, brother Phil Cyr, sister Yvonne and husband Donald Habberfield, sister Patricia and husband Mark Richardson, sister-in-law Gail Mannigan, sister-in-law Terry and husband Michael Quinn and numerous nieces and nephews all of whom were very special to him.
Ed was predeceased by his father, mother and his daughter Jenna and her unborn son William, also his nephew Matthew.
Eds son Andrew gave his father the gift of 16 more years of life in 2000 by donating a kidney to his dad. Ed was a good man who will be dearly missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 10, 2016 at 1PM at St. Marys Catholic Church, 326 College St., Middlebury with the Rev. William Beaudin as Celebrant.
