Middlebury- Dorothy J. Moore
Mrs. Dorothy J. Moore, 94, died early Saturday morning June 14, 2008 at her residence with her family by her side.
Born January 5, 1914 in Middlebury she was the daughter of the late Charles & Frances (Seweener) Shaw. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Middlebury High School.
She married Lawrence P. Moore on June 30, 1937 in St. Marys Catholic Church in Middlebury. He predeceased her on May 19, 1985.
Dorothy was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America 2009 CT Assumption, Middlebury Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary Post # 49 of Middlebury and a former Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching, poetry, history and painting natural landscapes. Dorothy was also one of the first Gray Ladies team at Porter Medical Center, serving as chairman in 1970 and was recipient of a Red Cross award. In addition she was a member of the Vermont Society of the Mayflower Descendents.
She is survived by her daughter, Margaret F. Bonnie Otis and her companion Tim Donovan of Middlebury, her two grandsons, James S. Otis, of Middlebury and Patrick P. Otis of North Fork, VA and their father Ted N. Otis of Salisbury, her granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Otis of IN; two great-grandchildren, Samantha J. Otis and Connor P. Otis, of Crown Point, IN, one sister, Lucy Danyow and husband Raymond of Middlebury, her brother Donald Shaw of Middlebury, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her sister Helen Shaw and by two brothers, Lucius and Charles Shaw.
There will be no visiting hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday June 21, 2008 at 10 AM at St. Marys Catholic Church. The Rev Justin Baker, pastor, will celebrant.
