Charles Joseph Lengyel, 90 , passed away peacefully on Saturday , November 12, 2011 at Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Middlebury surrounded by his loving family, who will miss him dearly. Charles was born April 6, 1921 in Middlebury to the late Michael and Mary (Puho) Lengyel. Charles graduated from Middlebury Union High School, class of 1939, where he was a member of the football, hockey and baseball teams. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served from 1942 to 1946 as a Field Lineman leaving for duty in World War II in 1945. After serving and returning home he met and married his beloved Barbara in 1950. They remained in Middlebury and both worked for Middlebury College. Charles retired as Sports Equipment Manager in 1986. He was a dedicated fan for most all the Panther sporting events held at the college, especially hockey and football and also Middlebury High, Tiger football. He was also an avid golfer living so close to the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing with his sons and close friends. He is survived by his son Paul Lengyel and his friend Ann Rule of Middlebury, son John Lengyel and his wife April of Burlington, grandchildren Abbi , Ross and Spencer Lengyel , his brother Frank Lengyel of Springfield, VT , his sister Pauline Novak of Middlebury, and sister Barbara LaFountain of Calais, VT. Charles was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 2007, his parents Michael and Mary, brother Michael Jr., sisters Mary , Josephine , Helen , Anna , and Theresa . A private graveside service will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011 with Rev. Albert Skip Baltz of St. Marys Catholic Church, Brandon, officiating. Military honors will follow.
