Obituary

Addison Charles Jay Larson was surrounded by his family when he died peacefully at the A.R.C.H. Room at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury. Chuck Larson was born in Middleton, Connecticut in 1926. He graduated from Portland High School in 1944. After serving in the Air Force Reserve from December 1944 to July 1946, he attended the University of Connecticut where he graduated with a degree in Animal Science. Chuck then earned a Master of Science Degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1949. He returned to work on his familys dairy farm for a short time before beginning an illustrious career with the Holstein Friesian Association in Brattleboro Vermont from 1950 to 1979.After serving as the Executive Director of the HFA, he joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he served in both Warsaw (1979-1982) and Caracas (1982-1984) as an Agricultural Trade Officer. From 1984-1987 he served as the CEO of a export company that facilitated opening many foreign markets to domestic livestock producers. After he retired to Addison County, Chuck travelled extensively,visiting friends and familyin the US and throughout the world. Chuck married his first love, Audrey Strickland, in 1949. They were blessed with two children, Robin and David Larson. After Audreys death in 1971, he married Nadine Gillies Ballou. Chuck and Dene made a home together in Brattleboro for his two children and her three children until Denes death in 1987. He then married Mary Louise Simanek who shared his life and the love of his extended family until her death in 2010. Shortly after Marys death, Chuck re-united with his old friend, Althea McBean. They were married and lived happily together the last four years of his life. Chuck is survived by his brothers, Harold and Bill Larson. He leaves behind his two children, Robin and David Larson and Davids wife, Judith. Chuck pre-deceases his three step-children and their spouses: Paul and Janice Ballou, Mary Beth and Philip Drumheller, and Kristin and Bill Benton. Chucks pride and joy were his grandchildren: Colin Koch and his wife Emma, Christopherand Gillian Koch; Eliza, Will, and Abby Benton; Sophie and Silas Larson; Erin Ballou and her husband Martin,and Julie Ballou; and his great-grandchildren Vivian and Celia Koch. Services will be held at 1:00 pm this Friday at the Addison Community Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the A.R.C.H.
