MIDDLEBURY, VT- Charles B. Chapman, beloved husband of Evelyn D. Chapman, passed away in Middlebury Vermont on April 9, 2015.
Born May 9, 1925 in Norwich, CT, he was the son of the late Percival and Mildred (Packer) Chapman.
He was a United States Navy veteran.
After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1947, Charlie and Evelyn raised their family in Glastonbury Connecticut in a home which Charlie designed. Charlie worked for the New Haven Railroad and Hartford Electric Light Company. He later worked as a salesman and then sales manager for Ripley Company. He spent the last ten years before retiring to Vermont working for the University of Connecticut selling computerized information research services.
While making his home in Addison Vermont, Charlie and his wife Evelyn enjoyed sailing on Lake Champlain, canal boating on the Erie Canal, traveling across the US and Canada by train, and a visit to Russia.
He was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Middlebury and the Addison Historical Society.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Evelyn Chapman, his dear sister Cynthia Huard of Makawao, Hawaii, his son Steven E. Chapman of Mesa, Arizona and his daughters Tamzen E. Chapman of Chicago, IL and Cheryl L. Lincoln of Bedford, Pennsylvania. He will be missed by his 6 grandchildren, Vincent E. Chapman, Cathleen E. Hartman, Jared A. Chapman, Robert C. Lincoln, Kyle E. Prendergast, and Colleen K. Prendergast, 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter.
Visitation will be Friday April 17, 2015 at the Eastview Community Room, 100 Eastview Terrace, Middlebury, VT. from 4:30 pm until 6:30pm. A memorial service will be held 1 PM Saturday April 18, 2015 at St Stephen Episcopal Church on the Green, Middlebury with Rev. Larry Yarborough, presiding and Rev. Lucy Pellegrini as officiant. . Burial will be at a later date in Maplewood Cemetery, Norwich, CT.
