Obituary

CHARLES BLAKE, JR. SHOREHAM-Charles M. Blake, Jr., 75, owner of DeWitt-Blake Insurance Agency, died Saturday, September 2, 2006 at Porter Hospital in Middlebury following a brief illness. Born in Hudson Falls, NY November 21, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles M., Sr. and Elizabeth (Dewey) Blake. Mr. Blake resided in Shoreham for the past 33 years and operated the insurance agency until the time of his death. He was on the board of directors of the First National Bank of Orwell and was an active member in the Shoreham Congregational Church, UCC of Shoreham where he served as the treasurer for many years. He was a member and past master of the Morning Sun Masonic Lodge of Bridport. He was a member of the American Bell Association I.I., an organization of bell collectors and collected fire marks. His yard was his pride and joy. During the Korean Conflict he served in the United States Navy and was a member of Middlebury American Legion. Family members include his wife Judith A. (VanHorn) Blake whom he married April 17, 1993; three daughters, Diane M. Wescott and her husband Daniel of Granville, NY, Denise M. VanDerwarker and her husband Ronald of Clovis, NM, and Lori L. Blake and her special friend, Edward Bassett of Andover, MA; a stepson, Wayne D. Lachat and his wife Tracie of Windsor, CT; one brother, Darrell Blake of Florida; six grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. Mr. Blake was predeceased by his first wife of 40 years, Beverly J. (Hughes) Blake and by four brothers, Donald Blake, Robert Blake, Alan Blake and Gary Blake. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service, Saturday, September 9, 2006 at 11 AM at the Shoreham Congregational Church, UCC with a luncheon to follow. Burial will take place in Mountain View Cemetery, West Pawlet, VT . In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Shoreham Congregational Church, UCC, P.O.
