CATHERINE HUFTEN MIDDLEBURY- Catherine T. Huften, 82, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at Porter Hospital, Middlebury following a period of failing health. Born November 21, 1927 in Colchester, VT., she was the daughter of the late Robert N. and Mildred E. (McCabe) Steele. Catherine spent her youth in Middlebury, later moving to Bantam, CT and returned here 8 years ago. Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495. She was a caterer for the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Catherine was of the Catholic faith. Surviving family members include two daughters, Patricia A. Tougas and her husband, Rene of East Middlebury and Victoria M. Davis and her companion, Rick Plumb of Litchfield, CT; one brother, Paul A. Steele and his wife Jane of Middlebury; ten grandchildren, Mark Tougas, Sarah McGrath and her husband Mike, Keith Tougas, Elizabeth Tougas , Joseph Tougas, Gene Tougas and his wife Ev, Lea Ann Hazelwood and her husband Tom, Tiffany Hussey and her husband Jeremy, Cpl. Timothy Bierce and his wife Jackie and Austin Bierce; four great grandchildren, Brittany McGrath, Shane McGrath, Dawson McGrath, and Mara Payne, a special niece, Linda Todd. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack E. Huften in 1985 two brothers, Robert Steele and David Steele and one sister, Elizabeth Betty Meacham. Friends may call from 10-11 AM at the funeral home Tuesday. A memorial service will be conducted at 11AM Tuesday at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main St., Middlebury with the Rev. Brian ODonnell, parochial vicar of St. Mary Church officiating. Burial will be in Bantam Cemetery, Bantam, CT.
