Carol grew up in Newark, Irvington, and Maplewood, NJ and later moved to Brooklyn, NY after marrying her first husband Robert. They later moved to Staten Island, NY in 1972, where Carol lived until 2009. While raising her children, she earned a college degree and graduated nursing school as valedictorian in 1985. She then worked as an RN in the Emergency Department at St. Vincents Medical Center and later Bayonne Medical Center, retiring in 2009. Over the course of her long career, she was heavily involved in the local chapter of the Emergency Nurses Association, taught at countless nursing conferences, and acted as mentor to many. She volunteered for countless charitable causes over the years, including providing medical care to first responders in the immediate aftermath of the 9/11 attacks in New York City and later to victims of Hurricane Katrina. In 2009, Carol and her second husband Michael moved to Henderson, NV to be closer to her grandchildren, where she became involved in several local community groups and charities, and published a book about her experiences as an ER nurse. In 2017, Carol drove across country with her dog, Curly, and cat, Boris, to move to Addison, VT with her daughter Melissa and her husband and children. She spent the last year enjoying life in Vermont with her pets, gardening, and most significant to her, sharing in the everyday lives of her grandchildren.
