Obituary

Barbara Mitchell OBrien, a longtime resident of Middlebury, VT and Boca Raton, FL died peacefully on Tuesday January 9, 2018 at Porter Medical Center following a yearlong residence in VT. Born December 29, 1940 in Middlebury, VT to Isadore and Kate Mitchell (Benedict). Barbara was educated locally, graduating MHS in 1958. She started her family soon after, marrying Michael Quesnel, together raising their three children in Cornwall, VT. She was a prideful woman who enjoyed working in the community. She worked at Middlebury College, then later at Standard Register is where she then met the love of her life Michael OBrien. The two moved to Florida in the early 90s where Barb would then live within just a few miles of her brothers Dick and Donnie Mitchell. In Florida she managed the printing center at FAU, making friends and enjoying the company of the young students. Barbara and Mike made many new friends in Florida, including the numerous people who became "family" from the Moose Lodge. Friends and family were always brought to the Moose Lodge when visiting FL, welcomed with open arms from her friends there because she had brought in new photos and stories of her family for years. Barbara could always be seen with an activity in her hands; knitting, solitaire, or one of the many books that she enjoyed reading then passing on to friends and family. She was a huge Vikings fan, rearranging her Sundays to be free for the big game and rallying against anyone who was against her team. Her knitting touched the hearts of many beyond her family. Hundreds of her knitted hats were regularly sent to the children at Moose Heart in IL. Others she was proud to donate to the local hospital for cancer and NECU patients. Barbaras dedication to the Moose club did not end there, in fact she was a charter member of the Moose Club in Boca Raton. In addition to her Moose membership, she was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. She was a "spunky" woman who took lifes opportunity to celebrate whenever she could. She enjoyed St. Patricks Day and New Years Eve especially. It was a tradition for Barbara and any family and friends who were around to meet at the public beach in Boca Raton every New Years Day just before sunrise. Welcoming the New Year with the sun coming up, champagne all around, and the love of her friends and family. Predeceased by .her parents, her adoring husband Michael OBrien who passed just shy of a year prior, and brothers Stewart and Donnie. She is survived by her children, Donna Quesnel and husband David Munson, Michael Quesnel and wife Lisa, John Quesnel and wife Abbey. Her brothers Richard and wife Linda Mitchell, Dean and Stacy, Bill and Kara, Izzy and Jodi and brother Bob, a sister Kate Quesnel and husband John. Also by her step Children Sean OBrien and wife Karen and Kelly OBrien Driscoll, along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other longtime friends she considered family. A special thank you to her daily caregivers Judy and Libby.
