Obituary

Ann Kuzniar Burridge, 80, died on July 1, 2006 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where she had been receiving a series of treatments over the past 18 months. Ann was born on August 31, 1925 in Orient, Pennsylvania, and lived through her high school years in Republic, Pennsylvania. In 1938 she accepted a U.S. State Department appointment in lieu of a college scholarship. Her career with the State Department involved service and participation in the SFO Peace Conference and the founding of the United Nations. Her government service continued through assignments in China and Japan until she married A. Lewis Burridge on June 2, 1951 in Tokyo, Japan. During her residences over 35 years in Taipei, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Manila, Ann was a devoted community supporter and an accomplished hostess for her husband who was an aviation executive, President of Sterling Drug Asia, and Chairman of the Asia Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce. She had a deep interest in Asian art and cultures and traveled widely, developing many international friends who mourn her passing. The family retired to the town of Ripton, Vermont, a suburb of Middlebury, in 1985. During the past 18 months, Ann and her husband Lew have been staying with their daughter Carol Massa and family in Scituate, Massachusetts. Ann is survived by her husband Lew, her son Lewis, her daughters Carol and Laura, her brother John Kuzniar, and eight grandchildren. Internment and a family service will take place at St. Marys Cemetery in Middlebury, Vermont. A memorial mass and celebration of Anns life will be held at St. Marys Church in Middlebury on August 5 at 11:00am.
