Obituary

Middlebury, VT Anita Dufour Church, 90, a seventy-year Vermont resident, passed away peacefully on January 1 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Norwich, CT on May 31, 1925, daughter of the late Arthur and Delima Dufour. She was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy and received her R.N. in 1946 from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford, CT. She was a member of the United States Cadet Nurses Corp. and is listed in the Women in Military Service for America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. She received her B.S. in 1982 from Castleton State College. In the early 1960s, she worked as an office nurse for Dr. Hincks. Later she worked at her favorite job, as a school nurse, for the Bridport, Shoreham, Weybridge, Cornwall, Salisbury and Ripton Elementary Schools. In addition she worked for Addison County Home Health as a visiting nurse. She was a communicant of St. Marys Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. After retiring from nursing, she was a volunteer at Porter Medical Center and for R.S.V.P (Retired Sr. Volunteer Program). She enjoyed travel and was a member of the 251 Club of Vermont and had visited all 251 of Vermonts towns and cities. Anita loved to walk and swim. She swam daily at either the Vermont Sun or the Middlebury Recreation Department. She was a familiar figure walking with her dog along Cider Mill Road in Cornwall. She is survived by her son Lloyd (Joe) M. Church III and his wife Nancy of Cambridge, VT; two daughters, Claire C. Komulainen and her husband Richard of East Greenbush, NY, and Monica D. Church and her husband Robert K. Brigham, PhD of Poughkeepsie, NY. Her sister, Claire Dufour, predeceased her in 2012. She leaves behind four grandchildren: Laura ONeal, Michael Bergevin, Heather Bergevin and Taylor Brigham and two great grandchildren, Jared ONeal and Cassady Bergevin. Visitation will be from 5 7:00 pm on Friday, January 15, 2015 at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 South Main St., Middlebury. Relatives and friends are invited to meet at St. Marys Church (326 College St.) on Saturday, January 16, at 11 am for a Liturgy of Christian Burial. Private burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Rochester, VT. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in honor of Anita D. Church to Elderly Services, PO Box 581, Middlebury Vermont, 05753 (elderlyservices.org) or Helen Porter Healthcare ((helenporter.org).
