Andrew J Koll PhD IEEE
Andrew J Koll born April 23, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland, only son of Andrew and Margaret Reil Koll Passed away on December 25, 2007. A sister, Doris Stahley predeceased him in the 1990s.
Andrew attended Baltimore Poly Tech in his teen years. Graduated from John Hopkins University Majoring in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He earned his PhD from Costal University in SanDiego, California.
Andrew loved to travel in Europe, especially in the countries of Italy, Turkey, Greece and Portugal. He was a partnership owner of a computer filament business named Central Service Corporation in Alexandria, Virginia that made electronic components. Thereafter he began to travel coast to coast in the U.S. as a consultant reliability aerospace engineer for Government projects developing military airplanes. An assignment in the 1980s brought him to Vermont to Simmonds Precision in Vergennes. Upon the closing of Simmonds, Andrew worked on assignments for Boeing on the East Coast until his retirement in the 1990s.
During his visits to his home town of Baltimore, Andrew looked forward to sharing oratoricals with his well versed family sharing work experiences and catching up on the latest happenings.
While growing up, he learned to love the water and spent much time on his own boat on the Delaware Bay. He also enjoyed skiing in his earlier days.
Andrew was a master of computer technology. In his home office, he has a wall display of fifteen awards and degrees that he achieved.
He had a penchant for his liking of the Opera and Ballet.---especially for the great Ballet dancer, Balanchine. Another penchant that he harboured in his heart was his love of animals, especially dogs. Andrew was a remarkable, learned, knowledgeable, brilliant man. He was a master of a myriad of topics. He loved and appreciated good books having been an avid reader. Yet, Andrew was a modest, unpretentious, humble man always ready to share his kindness, religious mannerisms and concerns not only to his family, but to friends, as well.
Although he had no children of his own, Andrew lovingly acquired the three grandchildren born into his wifes family. He was very proud of their achievements. They were the GREATEST love and admiration of his life. The relationship was recipicoal. He spent much time with them as they were growing up. Giving and sharing of his deeds whether in monetary or kindness giving, was one of his greatest enjoyments.
Survivors are his wife, who he married February 16, 1985, Mary Elizabeth Malzac of East Middlebury. A nephew, Larry Stheley of Baltimore, MD, a niece, Debbie Ebert of Gloon, Germany and her husband Otto- Erwin. Stepsons, Alan J Murray of Norcross, GA, Carl Murray and wife Kelley of Bristol, Eric Murray and companion, Erika Rhod of East Middlebury, Grandchildren, Dagan Murray of Monkton, Lucas Murray of East Middlebury, Shaunna Parker and husband Eric of North Clarendon, several cousins, nephews and nieces.
At the time of his retirement from Boeing, Andrew was on a lead team of aerospace, reliability engineers working on the development and testing of the V22 Osprey that can be flown either as a helicopter or conventional military aircraft. He was always loyal and committed to his work assignments as a Reliability Aerospace Engineer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday January 5, 2008 at 11 AM at the East Middlebury Methodist Church. The Rev Jill Robinson will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the spring in St. Marys Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Vermont Kidney Association at P.O. Box 244, Burlington, VT 05402.
