Alice Lisbet Carney passed peacefully into a new Life on March 6, 2010.
She was born at home in the Bronx, NYC, N.Y. on November 8, 1916, the second daughter of Fred & Margaret (Friedrich) Buechel.
During the New York Worlds Fair of 1938 and 1939 Alice worked for Billy Rose as a showgirl in the Aquacade. In 1941 she married William H. Carney, Jr. a NYC fireman, who predeceased her in death in 1974. Alice lived most of her live in NYC. She moved to Charlottesville, VA in 1979 and lived there for twenty two years. In 2001 she moved to Shelburne Bay Retirement Community in VT, and finally to her daughters home in Bridport, VT in 2006. Alice had a passion for bridge and was an avid player. She was an active and long time member of the Lutheran Church. Alice also had a passion for travel and did so extensively, but her favorite place was at her cottage in West Milton, VT on Lake Champlain where she spent most of the summers of her life.
Besides her husband she was predeceased in death by her sister, Charlotte Zink, a granddaughter, Liann her friend and traveling companion, Kenneth Douglas of Burlington, VT and her beloved dachshund, Lisl. She leaves her daughter, Ellyn and her husband, David of Bridport, and two sons; Wayne and his wife, Marie Louise of Troy, VA, and Fred of Highland Mills, N.Y. She also leaves twelve grandchildren; Kicha and her husband, Adam, Miya and her husband, George, Jana, Kate and her husband, Tim, Corey and his significant other, Vanessa, Aliece, Jesse and his wife, Joanna, Chris, Raymond and his wife, Susanna, Danielle and her husband, Jason, Erin and her husband, Lyle, and Jill. She leaves seven great grandchildren; Kayja, Joseph, Theodore, Mary Katherine, Lucas, Sophia and Aiden. She also leaves her dear friend of seventy two years, Ruth Mauro, of Boynton Beach, FL.
During her long and active life Alice had many friends as well as a large family. She was an inspiration to all and will be missed.
The family wishes to thank Alices many caretakers from Addison County Home health & Hospice and from Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center for the patience and kindness they provided during the last several years.
The family will have a private ceremony to celebrate her life at a later date. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Alices name may do so to the Lake Champlain Committee or to the Addison County Humane Society at 236 Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.
