ALBERTA WOOD
SHOREHAM- Alberta J. Wood, 87, a resident of Shoreham since 1972, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation.
Born in Craftsbury Common, VT May 23, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus R. and Viola (Hesseltine) Johnson.
Alberta was a graduate of West High School, Manchester, NH, class of 1942 and Keene State Teachers College, class of 1946. She taught home economics in the Weare and Goffstown, NH school system for four years.
Initially she and her husband operated a dairy and chicken farm and roadside stand in Candia, NH and in 1972, they bought a larger farm in Shoreham, VT. The love of her life was nurturing and encouraging her family. As hobbies she enjoyed cooking, sewing and knitting.
Alberta was a member of the South Main St. Congregational Church of Manchester. She was also a member of the Golden Circle of Keene State College and the order of Eastern Star of Derry, NH.
Surviving family members include one son, Loren C. Wood and his wife Gail of Shoreham; one daughter Sonya W. Barber and her husband Brian of Shoreham; seven grandchildren, Lee Wood, Leslie Wood and his wife Heather , Lance Wood and his wife Kristi , Tara Barber, Trevor Barber, and Travis Gunther Barber all of Shoreham and Loren Wood Jr. and his fiance Jamie Burnham of Orwell; three great grandchildren, Jordan Wood, Kaitlin Wood, and Ava Wood; and a nephew, Warren Pillsbury of Derry, NH.
Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Leslie C. Wood who died March 3, 2001, by a daughter, Jada A. Wood in 1995, a sister Goldie Whitcomb and a niece Jean Pillsbury.
There will be no calling hours or services. She has donated her remains to the University of . Vermont College of Medicine. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Addison County Home Healthcare and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
